Building enduring energy infrastructure.

Esker originates, structures and finances the next generation of low-carbon energy infrastructure.

About

Who we are

We are a company that originates, structures and finances long-term energy infrastructure, beginning with sustainable fuels.

Esker identifies projects where secured feedstock meets long-term demand, then advances them through a disciplined, staged process — underwriting, structuring and financing each project until it reaches a final investment decision.

Our approach

The origin of the name

An esker is a ridge formed by water flowing beneath a glacier that creates a durable path through the landscape – a structure that outlasts the system that created it.

Esker is built on the same principle. We develop infrastructure meant to outlast the conditions it was built under landscape – a structure that outlasts the system that created it.

Our approach

Esker creates value by delivering a pipeline of financeable projects.

Originates

We identify projects where a long-term, undervalued feedstock exists in a market with demand for contracted offtake. Our initial focus is sustainable aviation fuel, followed by other low-carbon energy products.

Structures

We underwrite every project against six criteria, with commercially proven technology selected to fit the feedstock and produced product. Each stage of development addresses a defined set of risks before the project advances.

Finances

We commit capital one stage at a time and raise construction financing once a project has cleared the stage gates to a final investment decision.

Project

Project Nahoonai

Project Nahoonai is designed to convert waste streams such as creosote-treated railway ties, woody biomass, and forestry residues into low-carbon fuels by tailoring technology and project design to the specific feedstock and site conditions.

The project will be executed in several phases across multiple sites in British Columbia, subject to meeting the criteria required to structure a financeable project at each site.

Project Nahoonai integrates Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) with the production of sustainable fuels to achieve best-in-class carbon intensities.

How it works

  1. 01

    Feedstock supply

Secure high-volume, undervalued streams such as railways ties and residual biomass.

  2. 02

    Conversion process

Apply thermal or biochemical conversion technologies to produce low-carbon fuels and materials.

  3. 03

    Fuel output

Deliver low-carbon fuels to industrial and transportation markets.

  4. 04

    Carbon Management

Avoid landfill methane emissions, eliminate toxic waste, and generate cleaner energy.

Leadership

Esker is led by a team of proven leaders in project development, execution and long-term growth.
